Week of August 25

Date night, a wedding, and two birthday parties all jammed into one weekend! This means greasy food, savory desserts, and a tired couple come Sunday night. We enjoyed celebrating all of these events, but have noticed after 3 months of eating healthier, some foods that we used to enjoy no longer excite us. We went to Rackhouse Pub at Stranahan’s on Friday night and got two beers each and shared the pretzel appetizer and the Lobster Mac & Cheese. Talk about carb loading. By the time we got the mac & cheese we felt bloated and could not believe what we were about to indulge in.

Saturday came around and we tried to cancel out the bad with the good, so we rolled into Crossfit South Denver and got a long workout in. After getting a good sweat, we went to a wedding in Reunion and probably sweat more in that hour than we had all week. We had record breaking highs that day and the wedding was completely outside! The first birthday party came that night and with birthday parties comes cupcakes. And frosting! Of course Kyla had one, as she is more of the ‘sweets’ person. Dan went for the nachos, being the ‘savory’ one. No matter what food was around, we knew it was the weekend and it is okay to ‘cheat,’ even though we hate using that word. Both events were great, and it is always fun to see our friends who we consider family.

Like the week before, when Sunday came, we were both excited to get back on track and get our grocery shopping done before the big crowds migrated their way to King Soopers. We shopped, put away the groceries, and cooked both of our lunches before noon. Feeling productive. Our lunches this week were easy to prepare and surprisingly we didn’t grill anything or make one in the Crock Pot. We made Turkey & Beef Taco Salad and Turkey Sausage & Peppers for our two lunches. Getting everything done so early meant we had time to relax before the final event of the weekend came around. The second birthday party was held at La Loma, a great Mexican restaurant in Denver.
